The Mural
This vibrant mural, created for a modern fusion restaurant, brings a lively and playful atmosphere to the dining space. Using Behr and Glidden Epic sample-size wall paint, I designed and hand-painted a dynamic composition that celebrates the diverse menu offerings.
The artwork features a whimsical illustration style with bold, cartoonish elements like fried chicken, tacos, fries, and refreshing drinks, all surrounding a central, cheerful chicken mascot. The mural's palette is bright and engaging, with pops of reds, yellows, and oranges that capture the eye and reflect the energy of the cuisine.
Incorporating elements such as sunbursts, chili peppers, and cutlery, the mural conveys the message of "authenticity" and "flavour," appealing to both the casual diner and food enthusiast. This piece not only enhances the visual appeal of the restaurant but also strengthens its brand identity as a family-owned business dedicated to delicious, high-quality food.
The Process
Creating this mural was a meticulous yet highly rewarding process that blended both creativity and technical skill. I began with a series of concept sketches, working closely with the restaurant owners to capture the essence of their brand—an energetic fusion of flavors and family heritage.
Once the final design was approved, I carefully selected a vibrant color palette using Behr and Glidden Epic sample-size wall paints to ensure both durability and vibrancy on the wall surface. The choice of these specific paints allowed for rich, opaque coverage and smooth application, ideal for the mural's bold, illustrative style.
I first laid down the primary outlines with a light pencil sketch, carefully scaling up the artwork to fit the expansive wall space. From there, I worked in layers, starting with base colors and gradually adding details such as shading, highlights, and textures to bring each element to life. The use of contrasting colors and dynamic shapes was intentional to guide the viewer's eye throughout the mural, creating a cohesive narrative around the theme of "Taste the Fusion."
Every brushstroke was done by hand, ensuring a unique touch to the artwork and emphasizing the restaurant's values of authenticity and tradition. The mural took several days to complete, with careful attention paid to the drying times between layers to maintain the paint's integrity and vibrancy.
The final step involved sealing the mural using a polyacrylic protective finish to ensure its durability and longevity. Applying polyacrylic created a clear, non-yellowing barrier that safeguards the artwork against scratches, moisture, and UV damage, preserving the vibrant colors and intricate details of the mural. This finish not only enhances the mural's visual appeal with a subtle sheen but also makes it easier to clean and maintain, ensuring that the artwork continues to captivate and delight viewers for years to come.
